Stone wool is is processed molten volcanic rock into which air or steam is introduced. The product is then spun on high speed spinning wheels not unlike the process used to create candy-floss. The result is a mass of fine, intertwined fibres that are compressed and bonded using either petroleum based chemicals.

Knauf Insulation now use their Ecose™ Technology to bind their products with 'rapidly renewable organic materials', rather than potentially hazardous petrochemical materials. So, no more phenol, formaldehyde, or acrylics in their more easy to handle Universal products.

Stone wool slabs offer a balanced combination of thermal and acoustic insulation

While PIR ad Phenolic boards offer better thermal properties than stone slabs of a similar thickness, rock wool products provide superior acoustic solutions. Stone wool offers the further benefit of being significantly less likely to introduce condensation into elements of a construction, than their aluminium faced counterparts.

Eco friendly insulation slabs

Knauf Insulation, with their their Ecose™ Technology have made significant progress in manufacturing eco-friendly insulation slabs. However, other alternatives exist, and we are commonly asked why we do not sell sheep's wool insulation, for example.
Sheep's wool insulation is a natural product, but 15% of its whole are chemicals added to inhibit moisture, mould, and infestation. It is also very expensive ... so, its true value is questionable.
